7th Annual Brew Cup 2008 Astoria, Oregon
Another great event, the 2008 Brew Cup in Astoria Oregon was enjoyed by all those that attended. Set in downtown Astoria off 12th and Duane street, the new Astoria public square was the site for the festival. Around 30 brews were served. Dancing, live music, and food vendors were also present. The weather was absolutely one of the best weekends at the coast all summer long, with temperatures in the high 70's to low eighties for the weekend. The first keg to blow was Huckleberry Cream Ale by Laughing Dog Brewery, earning it the "thar she blows" award. Fort George Brewery took the peoples choice award for "Vortex IPA" winning the Beer Cup for 2008. Be sure and stop in to sample some of the fine Ales that Astoria's local brew pubs are offering the next time you are in town.
A special thanks to Chris and Jennifer Holen, owners of the Baked Alaska restaurant for organizing this event and Chris Nemowill and Jack Harris of Ft George Brewery for arranging the beer selections and all the people who staff this event and make it happen!

Entrance from the street.

This year, large tents were set up in
case of rain, but they served
well as shade on this absolutely sunny weekend!

A few Brew cup festival regulars tasting some great beers!

Great music was played into the night!

This years event was one of the best. The weather was perfect and the beer selection was quite nice this year. There were a few fresh-wet Hop Ales on hand and some brews that were here for the first time including: The Pelican, Ninkasi, Lucky Lab, Laughing Dog, and Hopworks Urban Brewery to mention a few. If you have not yet been to Astoria for this brew fest, you should make plans for the last weekend of September of 2009. Great music, food and no waiting in long lines for beer tasting makes for a relaxed fun event!
