8th Annual Brew Cup 2009 Astoria, Oregon

Another great event, the 2009 Brew Cup in Astoria Oregon was enjoyed by all those that attended.  Set in downtown Astoria off  12th and Duane street, the  Astoria public square was the site for the festival.  33 beers were on tap this year including such great selections as: Double Mountain's "India Red", Hopworks Urban Breweries "Organic Rise up Red", Pelican Pub & Brewery's "Elemental Ale", Roots Brewing Co. "eXXXcalibur Imperial Stout, and many other great beer choices'.    Dancing, live music, and food vendors were also present.   The weather was clear and sunny with temperatures in the 70's for the weekend.  The first keg to blow was "Total Domination IPA" by Ninkasi Brewery, earning it the "thar she blows" award.  McMenamins "Whiskey Barrel Aged paridise Bay Coconut Porter" took the peoples choice award, winning the Beer Cup for 2009.

A special thanks to Chris and Jennifer Holen, owners of the Baked Alaska restaurant for organizing this event and Chris Nemowill and Jack Harris of Ft George Brewery for arranging the beer selections and all the people who staff this event and make it happen!

Just having arrived, a couple studies the beer menu to see what's on tap.

This beer festival just keeps getting better.  The weather was perfect and the beer selection was quite nice this year.  There were a few fresh-wet Hop Ales on hand and a great selection of beers you don't find on your local store shelves.  If you have not yet been to Astoria for this brew fest, you should make plans for the last weekend of September of 2010.  Great music, food and no waiting in long lines for beer tasting makes for a relaxed fun event!

Be sure and stop in to sample some of the fine Ales that Astoria's local brew pubs are offering  the next time you are in town.
